The Art of Janet Johnson

Friday, July 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

“The Art of Janet Johnson” opens at the Burgwin-Wright House on Fourth Friday Gallery Night and will hang until August 18 . The show also includes a pop-up exhibit, featuring items used by 18th and 19th century gentlemen.

An avid artist, nature lover and photographer, Johnson began working in pastels less than a year ago. Her mastery of the medium has already yielded three awards from area art shows.

Johnson’s show at the Burgwin-Wright House celebrates the history and natural beauty of the Cape Fear region with the vibrant colors and crisp detail typical of her singular style.  Her show will hang through August 22.

The pop-up exhibit –on display for one night only – gives visitors a rare window of opportunity to linger over select objects from the museum collection and learn details about their composition, provenance and purpose.  This exhibit showcases a mahogany shaving stand made in 1785 by a Philadelphia craftsman, cufflinks, stickpins, a pocket watch, a pipe, a beard brush, a brandy decanter and other items belonging to men.
