About the book

Maritime Wilmington by local author Beverly boasts 200 vintage images, many of which have never been published, and showcases memories of days gone by.

Highlights include:

•   Photographs from collections at the New Hanover Public Library and the StarNews archives.

•   From wooden ships to the Battleship North Carolina, the book features every type of vessel that sailed into the Wilmington Harbor.

•   The book discusses how Wilmington became North Carolina’s largest city from 1840 to 1910, and the exports, such as naval stores and cotton, that made it such an important trade center.

About the speaker

Beverly Tetterton

Beverly Tetterton is a retired archivist and librarian. She has received state and  national recognition for her work in digital archives, North Carolina history, architectural history and family history. Her new pictorial book Maritime Wilmington is the product of her passion for ships and wharves. The book covers the Wilmington harbor from the Colonial period to modern day. She is also a passionate preservationist and lives in an old house five blocks from the Cape Fear River.
